Why Mental Fitness

Why Mental Fitness

Our aim is to get people talking openly about improving their Mental Fitness.

Our vision is a world where people talk about Mental Health just like their Physical Health.

Our goal is to change the meaning of Mental Health.

Why Mental Fitness

These days we are hearing more and more about Mental Health. But for too many people it remains something confusing, scary or irrelevant.

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start, what to think or say, or how to take an interest in taking care of our own mental health.

That’s why Resilience Agenda exists. Our goal is to make the way we talk about mental health more proactive, preventative, relevant, empowering and inspiring.

We want to Change the Meaning of Mental Health so that talking about it openly doesn't suck.

It’s All of Us

Whether it’s out in the open or not, everyone knows someone affected by mental health. In fact, we all have mental health. Some of us are just a little healthier than others at different times of our lives.

Unfortunately, stigma and misunderstanding have confused what mental health really means. It’s the reason talking about mental health is so difficult and awkward at times.

That's why we believe that Mental Health has a PR problem. Because of the bad reputation that Mental Health has, it means that people are less likely to be open to learning about the tools, strategies and support pathways that underpin good Mental Health.

The Disconnect

The way we approach Mental Health at the moment means that most of us wait until we are in crisis mode ourselves before we start to take an interest in it.

That's because the dominant Mental Health message isn’t oriented toward education, self-management, maintenance and self-improvement in a meaningful way.

Too often, the picture is painted for us that we need to have a ‘problem’ or a ‘diagnosis’ before we can start taking an active interest in our Mental Health.

But by then it’s often too late to make meaningful changes to some of the things we can impact - what we think and do.

We all need to know the tools and strategies that guide us toward Mental Health, just like we know that eating well and exercising is key to physical health.

We believe that in the future, not looking after your mental health will be as unusual as not looking after your physical health.

Making Mental Health A Priority

That’s why Resilience Agenda exists. We want to make understanding and applying the most powerful strategies for managing and improving our Mental Health simple, habitual, and dare we say it – fun or cool.

In reality, much of our mental health is impacted by what we think and by what we do. New science and research is showing us that we have more impact over aspects of our Mental Health than we often believe.  This is an inspiring and encouraging way of seeing the world, yet with our busy lives and competing priorities, somewhere along the line our Mental Health get’s left behind.

We want to make looking after our Mental Health as natural, proactive and habitual as looking after our Physical Health.

That’s where Mental Fitness comes in.

A New Way of Thinking About Mental Health

What if there were a new way to think about Mental Health? Not as something negative, scary or frightening, but something relatable, actionable and that each of us can impact and understand?

Just like not everyone is capable to start working on their physical health (say if they have a serious condition), not everyone will be able to take the same steps with their Mental Health. But what works in recovery can work even better in prevention - and can help us get so much more clarity, focus and meaning out of life.

What we need is a new way to inspire people to proactively care more and do more for their Mental Health much earlier. With a set of easily recalled tools and strategies, we can build our Mental Fitness whilst we are well, and climb our way back to good health when we start to struggle.

That’s the future of Mental Health.
